An open letter to Andrew Stoner, MP

Thursday, February 14th, 2013

The Interactive Media Fund is a grant-based fund, administered by Screen NSW, to help grow the interactive media industry in New South Wales through supporting the creation of new interactive digital content. The fund, initially called the Digital Media Initiative, was launched in December 2010 and committed to providing $1.5m per year over a 3 year period to develop the digital media industry in NSW, of which video games is a key component. Since launch the fund has provided grant income to a number of small video game companies, including ourselves. This, we believe, has helped grow the video game industry across NSW. The initial 3 year commitment comes to an end in June this year and continuation of the fund is currently under review.

We believe that a fund of this nature is vital to foster the development of the local video games industry and urge Andrew Stoner MP, NSW Minister for Trade and Investment, to continue the legacy of this important fund through another round of committed grant funding. Nic has written an open letter to him which is shown below.

If you live in NSW and share our view that this vital fund should continue, please write to Mr Stoner at office@deputypremier.nsw.gov.au. We have provided an email template here. Feel free to use this template in its entirety or to change it to suit your circumstances. It is really important that Mr Stoner hears our views during this review period. Help us persuade Mr Stoner of the importance of this initiative and together we can continue to grow the burgeoning video game industry in NSW. (more…)

Escape with all the medals

This is the final part of our series of features telling you all you need to know about escapeVektor.  Read on to learn about more enemy types, Boostenate and the soundtrack that will accompany your escape from the CPU.

Run, blast and reach for the stars!

escapeVektor™ is a retro styled arcade game  in which the player controls Vektor, an entity trapped inside the player’s CPU. Each node (level) consists of a series of interconnected lines which form cells. These are claimed as Vektor moves along them. Claiming all of the cells in a node unlocks the exit to the next node, bringing Vektor closer to his escape.

However, this is no ordinary CPU. It has held Vektor captive for what feels like an eternity and it doesn’t want him to leave now. As Vektor progresses with his escape, the CPU sets up obstacles and sends out its army to destroy him.

In the final part of our escapeVektor feature, we describe the Interceptors, Munchers and Locusts, the most difficult enemies to deal with. We also talk about the Detonate and Boostenate abilities, high scoring tactics and the interactive soundtrack. (more…)

Spirit Hunters Inc briefing (part 2)

Thursday, November 22nd, 2012

Welcome back trainee Spirit Hunters! Glad you could join me for the second part of my briefing. If you remember, in the first briefing I discussed some of the basics of spirit hunting – scanning, Abilities, Items and traps – and then started to discuss battle tactics. Let’s pick up form there.

As well as using the Fire element’s Burn and Warm Heart as passive ability combinations, there are other exciting combinations which you can take advantage of too! For example some passive abilities apply a debuff to the spirit and in doing so make another ability become active. Here’s an example:

Infection:

Infection is a Fungal passive ability which gives a Fungal aligned spirit hunter a chance to Infect the spirit each time one of their Fungal attacks hits it. When Infected the spirit takes additional Fungal damage every few seconds. While this is cool in itself, when you also buy Outbreak and Pestilence it becomes really interesting: (more…)
