E3 Diary (part 1)

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

After the positive reception we received from our GDC Diary blogs earlier in the year, we decided to write another covering our experiences at E3 in June.

The Kings of Geeks

In the weeks before the conference our focus was to get our games into a state where we could showcase our latest builds. We had to ensure that all the new features we had in Spirit Hunters Inc were coded into a playable state. As escapeVektor: Chapter 1 was being bug tested, we were keen to have all bugs fixed so that we could show the final version in LA.

Unlike GDC, there were no formal press interviews being set up but we were still keen to show the press the latest builds of our games. Renting a booth at the show is way too expensive for a small developer like Nnooo, and if we were to do this we would need to have someone staffing it at all times which is just not practical for us. We needed another way to reach out to our press contacts which would not cost an arm and a leg. We also wanted to meet up again with the other Nintendo indie devs who we met at GDC. We thought it would be cool if we brought everybody together in one place. Then we could show everyone what we were working on and introduce our indie mates to some press contacts. (more…)

Pop Plus: Solo – a great DSiWare title for your 3DS

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

Now that Nintendo’s eShop has arrived, there is a fantastic range of highly quality, great value DSiWare titles which can be downloaded on to your 3DS. One of these is our very own Pop Plus: Solo. We think it’s a great game, full of challenging content with 8 different play modes, 4  boss battles, bonus rounds, powerups and over eighty badges to collect. But then maybe we’re biased. We did make the game after all!

Well, Nintendo of Europe have included Pop Plus: Solo in their recommended DSiWare titles promotion, so they must like it. Also, games site Vooks consider it one of “The best DSiWare games that deserve a place on your Nintendo 3DS”, so they seem to like it too. Not convinced yet? Well, Pop Plus: Solo also features in “Wiiloveit’s Best of DSiWare”.

If that’s not enough to persuade you, why not take a look at Nintendo Life’s review of Pop Plus: Solo when it originally came out for DSiWare. They scored the game 9/10, and said “It goes without saying that Pop Plus: Solo is a highly recommended purchase, there are very few other games on the DSiWare service that come close to matching the extremely high quality of this title.”

Given these recommendations and the great value that the game represents, isn’t it time you took a look for yourself? Go on, you know you want to!

Oh, and one last thing. If you do download it, or any of our other DSiWare software, on to your 3DS, be sure and rate it so that others can hear about it too.

As always, we really appreciate the support of our existing and new fans. Thank you all very much.

Digitally Downloaded features Nnooo

Monday, May 9th, 2011

When Matt Sainsbury from Digitally Downloaded came to have a look at escapeVektor: Chapter 1, he also took some time to catch up with Nic. Based in Sydney, Matt knows us reasonably well by now and Nnooo is featured in this month’s edition of the online magazine. Once you’ve finished reading pages 16-19, have a flick through the rest of it. We think it’s well worth a read!

Team Interview with Moving Platforms

Monday, April 4th, 2011

We recently had our first team interview! The interviewers were our old friend Daan Koopman, who has interviewed Nic a few times before, and Daan’s colleague Jason Davidson. We talked in detail about Spirit Hunters Inc, escapeVektor, our future plans and a few other things. It was quite a long one, about an hour and a quarter, with plenty of details on the upcoming games! Daan and Jason are starting up a new site called Moving Platforms. Knowing these guys, it is bound to be a great success. Keep an eye out for their future content through Daan’s twitter account.

GDC Diary (part 2)

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

Wednesday March 2nd – Frankenstein Creations and Positive Vibes

Our first full day at GDC started with Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata’s keynote conference speech. His theme was “Video Games turn 25” and it was fascinating to hear him talk about his experience of working with Shigeru Miyamoto, how the industry has developed over the last 25 years, where he thinks it will go from here, and of course that well documented dig at mobile games! It was a nicely balanced talk, about the good and the bad of the video games industry, made all the more impressive by the fact that English isn’t his mother tongue. You can see the whole talk here. Spirit Hunters Inc – Developer Diary #2: Battle!

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

PRESS RELEASE: Nnooo releases second developer diary of Spirit Hunters Inc.

Australian based games developer Nnooo has released the second in a series of developer diaries showcasing Spirit Hunters Inc™, their next game for Nintendo DSiWare™.

Spirit Hunters Inc is a role playing game in which the player hunts, battles and captures spirits which inhabit our world. The game uses the front facing camera of the Nintendo DSi™ to create an augmented reality, merging computer generated spirits with the player’s real environment where the battles take place.

“The development of the game is really taking shape and we are delighted to be able to show the battle mode which will represent a large part of the player’s in-game experience”, said Nic Watt, Creative Director at Nnooo. “Now that we have some of the sound effects and player abilities in place, we are able to give a much better feel for what it’s like battling against the spirits.”

The player is part of an international task-force called Spirit Hunters Inc which is charged with capturing mischievous spirits and sending them back to the spirit world. Players will have to hunt down these spirits and coax them out of their hiding places before doing battle with them through their Nintendo DSi. On capturing spirits, players will be rewarded with experience points and in-game currency with which they will be able to level up, replenish health, buy useful spirit hunting items and traps and learn new battling abilities.

“We are very excited about how the game is developing”, said Watt. “Augmented Reality is a really exciting new area for games and we think that Spirit Hunters Inc is really making use of all of the Nintendo DSi’s features. We are also planning a version for the Nintendo 3DS™. More details about this will be revealed in the future.”

Spirit Hunters Inc is scheduled for release on Nintendo DSiWare later this year.
