We recently had a visit from Nintendo World Report who were looking to do a feature piece on Nnooo, including an interview with Nic. We were delighted with this resulting article which gives a great feel for the office and really gets to the heart of what we are up to. Plus there’s a great interview with Nic which includes Nic’s game design influences, why we made the myLifeCollected series, a little more insight into escapeVektor and what we think of Nintendo. We’ve always thought Mark Serrels from Kotaku Australia was an entertaining journalist so when he won Best Games Journalist at this year’s Australia/New Zealand IT Journalism Awards, we weren’t really surprised. We’ve been trying to get Mark round to our office for a while now but his busy schedule has made it difficult. However, he managed to find some time to visit a few weeks ago and this entertaining and informative article is the result. We really like it!
An Audience With Nnooo: EscapeVektor, Spirit Hunters And Designing Games With Post-It Notes
Australian-based developer Nnooo recently invited us to visit its studio, based in Pyrmont, Sydney, to talk game development, taking risks, and how to design a video game using Post-It notes.
Post-It notes. Everywhere you look. Impossible to escape. Covered in silhouettes, random designs, mazes, outlines. Organised in shapes. Meta Post-It notes – not just for scribbles, but for the framework of things. Master plans doused in yellow. A yellow-print.
I’ve just entered Nnooo headquarters. A handshake from Creative Director Nic Watt later and I’m drawn to the main wall of the office. I walk past in a hypnotic daze, almost cutting Nic off mid-sentence – “why are all these Post-It notes on the wall,” I mutter absently, to no-one in particular. “What do they mean…”
My eyes begin scouring, entranced in this sea of yellow and biro.

We went to E3 in LA to meet the major console manufacturers and check out the latest video game developments, including Nintendo’s Wii U. On the night before the conference we held a drinks reception for press and some of our closest Nintendo indie developer mates. Justin Berube from games site Rip Ten came along to our drinks and took a look at escapeVektor: Chapter 1. This is what he thought. (more…)

When the guys from Australia’s MMGN website got in touch for an interview, Nic was there to answer their questions on being an indie developer, the state of the Australian market, and of course Spirit Hunters Inc & escapeVektor: Chapter 1. See and hear what he had to say to Stephen Heller from MMGN.
Indie Dev Insight – Nnooo
It takes drive, motivation and a creative flair to be successful in the games industry, and Sydney-based developer Nnooo have all of its bases covered. With a successful game under its belt and a series of popular applications for the Nintendo DSi to their name, we recently had the chance to catch up with founder Nic Watt and discuss his thoughts on the industry, and find out a little more about their upcoming projects. Nintendo World Report interviewed Nic at GDC and filmed his walkthrough of escapeVektor: Chapter 1. We also sent them a preview copy of the game to see what they thought when they played it through themselves. Find out exactly what they thought below and see the detailed walkthough video at the end of the preview.
Let me ‘point’ you in the direction of a new retro-styled WiiWare title.
Nnooo’s latest WiiWare game is a decidedly retro title with inspiration from arcade games like Pac-Man, Tron, and a bit of Every Extend Extra and Rez. In the first in a series of games, players find an entity named Vektor who is trapped inside the Wii’s CPU, and in an abstract way, they must help him escape.
The “CPU” is made up of series of interconnecting rectangles, or “cells,” of various sizes. Using the Wii Remote in NES configuration or the Classic Controller, players control an arrow, which travels along the edges of these cells. All lines must be traversed in order to open a door to escape. The concept is simple, but very engaging.

We take Nnooo’s trippy arcade title for a spin by Corbie Dillard
It’s now been almost three long years since Nnooo released its first WiiWare title Pop, and now after having turned its attention to DSiWare and its rather unique set of myLifeCollected applications, the company has decided to make a surprising return to WiiWare with the brand new title escapeVektor: Chapter 1. While there are no bubbles to pop this time around, Nnooo has taken a very simple concept and wrapped a unique gaming experience around it all. (more…)

PRESS RELEASE: Nnooo announces the launch date of myDiary™ for Nintendo DSiWare™ in the Americas.
myDiary, the latest release in the highly successful myLifeCollected™ range, goes on sale in the Americas on Monday 31 January. myDiary allows users to organize their lives by keeping track of appointments, making daily journal entries and even setting daily alarms. It also features icons to indicate the time, volume and current battery level.
“myDiary is a logical extension to our myLifeCollected range.”, said Nic Watt, Creative Director at Nnooo. “Our vision with this range was to extend the DSi™ from portable games console into a games and multimedia device. The myLifeCollected range, which also includes our range of myNotebooks™ and myPostcards™, gives people the chance to do just that.”
In myDiary, users can tap on a day to write and review notes and add alarms to keep track of important events and birthdays. myDiary can be customized to your personal taste by using the 12 unlockable background and ink colors. There is also a security function to keep daily notes private.
“We are delighted with the reaction to this line of applications” said Watt. “The release of myDiary in the Americas marks the end of the current myLifeCollected series. Our next projects will bring our focus back to gaming, with Spirit Hunters Inc, a social RPG for the DSi using augmented reality. We are also working on an exciting new game for Nintendo WiiWare™ which we will be announcing soon.”
myDiary will cost 200 points and will be available from Monday 31 January in the Americas. It is already available in Europe, Australia & New Zealand.
